Theory: The Perpetual Testing Initiative caused the eventual creation of the Combine.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:27 PM PST

For years, people have been trying to narrow down the strange design connections between Aperture Technology and Combine technology, the similar turrets, the similar energy-pelets, the similar designs between Turrets and Elite Combine Troops, the GLaDOS-sounding Combine AI, etc...some people think that these are just simple reused assets, and although thats the most-likely answer, I'd like to suggest a new possibility:

The Perpetual Testing Intiative was a mostly comedic-themed way to finally allow Portal fans to finally create their own test chambers, however, it also came with a very long story in the form of audio messages that played at the beginning and ending of every custom-made test chamber, voiced by the amazing J.K. Simmons as Cave Johnson!

The story is very long, with all kinds of cool, creepy, and funny alternate realities and alternate Aperture Sciences in various states of growth or decline. We primarily follow Cave-Johnson Prime, who is trying to use the various test-chambers to repair the space-time continuum or something...

The main reason that the timeline were Cave Johnson never died in this new timeline is because he never touched moon-rocks, and discontinued GLaDOS, but he still had interest in AI, and I think that there was one Cave Johnson that had put its mind into a computer, but he wanted to die, and eventually was killed... what if this experience with a AI version of Cave Johnson makes Cave Prime's research into "Brain Mapping" to take a dark turn?

The Perpetual Testing Initiative ends with Aperture Prime and Cave Prime taking control of a universe of money, basically giving them infinite economic resources.

Although the idea of the Perpetual Testing Initiative is portrayed as funny, when you think about it, its kinda dark, a all-powerful version of Aperture Science raiding their alternate-universe-selves for resources, literally "stealing" their test chambers once they have built them...

After discovering a suffering version of himself as a AI, Cave Johnson Prime chooses to instead upload his, and everyone in his incredibly-rich Aperture into different bodies, through "Brain-Mapping" but what beings would be perfect enough? The Shu'ulathoi, also known as the Combine Advisors.

With an unerring eye for weakness, THEY pursued not the host but the parasite. This is what THEY are after all.

Latching on lampreylike to worlds, sucking them dry, saving only the bits that strengthened them for future feedings.

Dr.Breen as a Combine Advisor literally admits that the "THINGS" that invaded the minds of the Combine Advisors (before they were controlled by the Combine) were parasites, things that fed off entire worlds and harvested them for things that strengthened them. This is LITERALLY what alternate-reality Aperture Science did, invaded alternate realities and harvested them for resources.

but how did they upload their brains to the Advisor species?

    Through Brain-Mapping.

The finest minds are stored and than imprinted, replicated over and over on an endless supply of hosts. - BreenGrub

As for myself, (Dr.Breen) I believe that there were several copies made. The first was made as a condition of surrender. Part of the bargain. - BreenGrub

The post-Human Aperture scientists literally wanted Dr.Breen to experience what they had done to themselves, leave Humanity behind and become inter-dimensional harvesters of the Multiverse...stealing from their alternate-reality selves, collecting their experiments from the past, like how in Half Life Episode 3, they were going to try and experiment on the Borealis...

So, what do you think of this theory?

    Best insurance ad ever

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 02:14 PM PST

The Portal-themed Geico Insurance ad has launched within me wild speculation that Portal 3 is being developed.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 05:42 PM PST

For those of you who might not have seen the ad.

Valve and Geico paired up for an insurance ad. At first I thought it was just a silly ad. But the way the light reflects off the portal gun. The foreground blur. The fresher looking textures and a background that feels familiar but that I don't recall from the first two. All of it looks like a new Portal game. Am I going insane? Am I reading too much into an insurance commercial? It looked like an early build they used to make a commercial.

    Portal poster signs meaning

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 12:55 PM PST

Hi guys, I'm making portal entry signs and I don't understand meaning of these bars (marked in red), does the number correlate to something? It's not the room number, there are too many bars for that.
