    Portal thought for the day
    • You have a 2-meter length of rope.
    • You have two portals, like what's seen in the video game "Portal".
    • These two portals are on surfaces spaced 2 meters apart and angled in towards each other at the top, such that the gap at the top is only 1.75 meters and the gap at the bottom is 2.25 meters.
    • Supported by a worktop you thread the rope through the top of the two portals where the gap is less than the length of rope and you fuse both ends together, such that the rope is now continuous.
    • You now remove the worktop holding the rope up and let it fall.
    • As the rope excelerates towards the bottom of the portals and the gap between the two eventually exceeds the length of the rope; what happens next?
