    /r/Portal Test Chamber Showcase - May 2021

    Posted: 01 May 2021 12:00 AM PDT

Hello, and again, welcome to the Aperture Science computer-aided enrichment center. We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one.

The Enrichment Center is pleased to present the {{date %B %Y}} /r/Portal Test Chamber Showcase.

Here, you may post links to up to three chambers, or one collection. You may post your own chamber or someone else's chamber, but if it was made by someone else, please be advised that Aperture Science regulations require you to credit the author. If you fail to do so, you must disregard any undeserved praise.

Feedback and discussion about chambers you have tested in this thread is highly encouraged, as it helps creators to improve their work.

    Thank you, and have fun.

    Releasing Neurotoxin

I just found this out when trying to skip some of the level, you can trigger the 'ending' without going into the fire. (its a bit laggy at the beginning, it doesn't stay like that)

Why is there a teaser for the movie “Super 8” in Portal 2

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:39 PM PDT

In the extras menu on the title screen, you can find a interactive teaser for a movie called Super 8. Does anyone know why that's there?

Why Wheatley is NOT a moron

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:32 AM PDT

Today I'd like to talk about the character that is Wheatley - the "trustworthy" core. This post was inspired by The Wheatley Whisperer and his Wheatley analysis. Do you maybe remember, how Portal 2 started? Of course, you wake up in an abandoned facility. Though it may be called "abandoned", you meet with the personality core - Wheatley. He tries to help you escape. However one of the first things you notice is that he is quite... clumsy. After the awakening of GLaDOS we lose him.

    1. Escape: Not really though. We encounter him again a few times, as he tries to find a way for us to escape. Finally he manages to get us out of the testing track, knowing that if he'd not react then we would be enhanced (here, acronym for "dead"). So after navigating us through aperture we manage to break GLaDOS's turrets and neurotoxin. (which debatadly is weird looking at how the second one was used in the finale, but that's of the point) Afterwards with the help of the power of IMPROVISATION he gets transferred to the main body of the facility. Everything goes downhill from there. He feels more alive than ever. Everything was clear. The main body doesn't just work as a simple base for the core. It quadraples the user core's personality. At the same time we find out from our worst nemesis that indeed "He's not just a regular moron. He's a moron designed by the greatest minds of our generation, to create the greatest moron that ever lived". Though is that really? Should I just believe it? I would say no.

    2. "This sentence is false": However once we reunite with him after "the Fall" we start to realize something. He's not holding up. The facility will explode if GLaDOS doesn't get back to her body. So she said before one key argument people use. We encounter a paradox that GLaDOS tells to Wheatley. He doesn't react. The Frankenturrets on the other hand... Of course that Wheatley wouldn't try to even ask himself "What did this potato say?". If you are going to meet a POTATO that constantly tries to talk about how you are the biggest failure in the history of the entire WORLD, then no wonder he won't listen.

    3. Why won't he take care of the facility: Now here is another argument. If he wouldn't be a moron, then how wouldn't he at least to try take care of the facility? As I said before it's not holding up that well. Instead, let's tackle it from Wheatley's perspective. "So now I don't have any hope left. The test subject died because of what I did and I won't be able to find HER as well. I am so lost. Huh, what if instead of doing nothing I will create my own test subjects and make them solve tests? There must be a reason for the tests to be done. " Now, when we return, then he tries to continue this approach. It worked as long as the "itch", as he calls it got taken care of. Admittedly it didn't last too long. That must be so frustrating. We find out from the test "ceiling button" Wheatley doesn't remotely know what most of the buttons do. How is he supposed to keep the famed Aperture Science, known for its size completely operational?

    4. GLaDOS vs Wheatley: I am going to compare GLaDOS and Wheatley as the central cores. Let's start with the GLaDOS. Before she was made into a core, Caroline (which was her name) has been Cave Johnson's right hand. Some deleted lines tell us more about her personality. Firstly we know that she debatedly had even less morals than the Aperture's owner. She didn't hesitate to hide the bodies of dead test subjects. You could see the resemblance to her final form. She was decisive and preferred results over people. It didn't mean that she wanted to become GLaDOS. "I don't want this, mr. Johnson! I don't want this!". She still ended up as the "human devoid of humanity" controlling Aperture Science.

And our blue-eyed friend? We don't know much about him, yet we can assume that he helped humans around the neurotoxin emmiters. You can also assume that it didn't come out well. Putting Wheatley as the central core can be compared to putting a 7 year old as the mayor of a city. You don't need to think much to realize that it's not a good idea. If he has problems dealing with concentrating on one activity... then how is he supposed to lead an entire facility. This leads me to the final realisation.

    1. Realisation: If people voting for a mayor that's a kid, means that the blame is not on the kid itself but on the voters, then who should we blame in this situation? Is it on ourselves, looking at how we put him in this position? He tried to help us escape, and when you think about it he succeeded. He tried to sabotage GLaDOS's plans, and he succeeded. He tried to wake us up, and he succeeded. He tried to get attention, and he ... succeeded ... in a way. He tried to be respected ... and he didn't succeed. He was thrown into the orbit. No wonder everyone feels bad for him. That's terrible that he only succeeded helping us, and he failed when he just wanted to be respected. His biggest problem is his concentration NOT intelligence. If scientists wanted to make him "the greatest moron that ever lived" then they failed miserably, looking at how most other cores could be called "morons". Look at space core for example. The only think that he's thinking about is space. If he would be in the same room as the Frankenturrets, then I suspect that he wouldn't even hear what POTATOS said, because of his constant stream of thoughts screaming "SPACE!!!". I don't want to insult the space core lovers, but at same time I want to leave you to leave this thread with a thought. What did Wheatley REALLY do wrong?
