Aperture is more advanced than the Combine from half-life 2.

If you look at Aperture Science and compare it with combine tech, you realize that Aperture is far more advanced.

Warning! Hl2 spoilers

Energy pellets:

In half-life 2 the energy pellets (called combine energy balls) don't do as much damage, which is possibly explained by the HEV suit, but in portal if you put an HEV suit into the game (which was done in Portal Epic Edition) you will note the aperture science version of energy pellets ignores the HEV suit, meaning Aperture has created something more deadly than the combine could make. Another thing to note is that the combine energy balls are created by an absolutely massive reactor core inside the Citadel and can be transported through small orange grenade shaped canisters. In portal the Energy pellets are produced by a small launcher. There are catchers for pellets in half-life and portal, and the half-life one is much larger.

Teleportation technology:

Aperture has easily accessable portals, that can be made simply with a gun. The combines portal took destroying the entire citadel with a reactor overload which created a massive portal in the sky that frequently released storms of destruction, which ended up destroying an entire combine city called "City 17". This portal was destroyed by a rocket. Meanwhile Aperture has created a device that can make a simple portal on any flat white surface (which could most likely be modified for any surface) and the gun appears to not take any energy. And for long distance teleportation Autoportals can perform that action. Aperture also created the Borealis, a teleporting boat, which the combine doesn't know how to make and is desperately trying to obtain at the end of half-life 2 episode 2

Hi /r/Portal! It's my first time posting here, I hope this kind of content is welcome. Just some thoughts about the lyrics of Still Alive, and Glados' awareness of the Combine invasion. This is all probably very obvious for a lot of people, but I only just thought about it!

This line speaks for itself, she would prefer to stay in the labs because of what is happening on the surface.

So go ahead and leave me
I think I prefer to stay inside

The abolition of Black Mesa following the Combine invasion. It's a fat chance that they can help Chell because they don't exist anymore.

Is she running these experiments and tests to prepare for the Combine and protect Aperture, or is this still just a part of her programming? She sings this after her cores are destroyed, so who knows?
