The mainframe is the REAL villain of portal 2.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 05:47 PM PDT

When GLaDOS is taken off of the mainframe, she's actually pretty level-headed as we can see. Sure she's a bit of a rude person still, but that's probably coming from the caroline side of her not being wanted to be poured into a computer + the 50000 years of being attached to the mainframe. Let's have wheatley as an example here. When he gets put in charge, the mainframe gave him the itch that made him want to test because it was the thing that the mainframe was specifically designed for. Wheatley's boss theme also kind of compliments my theory here. Let me explain, the sharp and descending notes are the corruption going into wheatley permanently corrupting him. (Wheatley is already a corrupted core so this would happen faster compared to GLaDOS which is a functional core, she was already at 80% corruption when you take her off of the mainframe.) The part where wheatley gets knocked out only has the heavy bass and scratchy notes remaining, this is the mainframe itself. The slow parts are wheatley fighting for dominance while the mainframe corrupts him. Even though he does get corrupted, when he gets ejected from the mainframe, we see him in space actually regretting what he has done, which is consistent with GLaDOS becoming more level-headed when she's off of the mainframe. As for the end of the game, the corruption took a bit for wheatley since at first he was just playing around. GLaDOS made use of these few minutes without corruption by sending you outside and sending the companion cube with you. After that i can only assume she became the GLaDOS we know because of how rude she is to atlas and p-body.

Is Rick A.K.A. The Adventure Core actually Cave Johnson?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 06:25 AM PDT

I haven't found anyone speaking about this version of the theory yet. I've seen a lot of theories about how people think that the Oracle Turret (better known as the weird Turret that you pick up off the assembly line that says "I'm different") is the copied consciousness of Cave Johnson, but has anyone considered that there might be a better candidate for this?

I'm talking about Rick, or for those who don't know who I'm talking about, The Adventure Core. In case you missed it, Rick is the second corrupted core in the Wheatley Battle that GLaDOS hands you that you need to attach to him. He is notable for having a green eye, a macho voice and is seen swinging back and forth on the tether that GLaDOS carries him in on. I have a feeling that even though Caroline was transferred into GLaDOS, Cave Johnson at least tried to port himself into a core as well, and due to him either rushing the process, just testing the concept, or just trying to scan himself in when he was almost dying anyway, Cave's core could have ended up with damaged or incomplete data, which is why Rick was corrupted. Here are a few other reasons:

-Caroline was ported into GLaDOS, which is a personality core: this is proven due to her being susceptible to the core transfer. Space Core and Rick are also personality cores and would likely function similarly to GLaDOS or Wheatley should they be put in charge of the facility.

-Since GLaDOS was created by scanning the brain of a human, who is to say that other cores weren't made from people? Obviously, some cores like Cake core and Fact core could have artificial sources seeing as they act much more robotic, but Rick is different. Notice how GLaDOS spoke very much like a human after she was no longer limited by the personality cores attached to her and before Caroline's personality was supposedly deleted- this is GLaDOS's Caroline side and the part of her that was Caroline. Rick's personality is very human- he has a name for himself, acts macho, flirts with Chell, and shows other human traits compared to the other cores.

-While Cave Johnson and Rick do not share a voice actor as Caroline and GLaDOS do, they do sound very similar and they share an accent.

-Rick doesn't refer to himself as Cave, but GLaDOS was unaware that she was made from Caroline for years. Whatsmore is that this could explain why Rick doesn't acknowledge GLaDOS even if he is Cave.

-Rick's thrill for adventure has parallels to Cave's thrill of science- the short version is that both of them just like to find stuff out for the fun of it. Several of Cave's quotes even mention adventure, with one of them being: "Looks like we just had to seal up Science Sphere Seven. Hull breach. Another adventure party smashed through the hull to learn the big mystery. Guess they were busy doing that instead of testing, because I've mentioned we're in space every half hour. By the way: still in space."

-During the battle, Rick regularly makes chauvinistic statements towards Chell in an attempt to be macho, such as him telling Chell to go on a "lady break" so that he can fight Wheatley himself. Cave and Caroline may have been a thing, but it's obvious that while Cave liked her, he didn't see her much as an individual as he forced her to become GLaDOS right before he died despite her being against it, which might have been the main reason why a secretary like Caroline was suddenly made the CEO only after Cave's death. Cave is also shown to be somewhat discriminatory himself, as one of his dialogues has him firing an employee for being in a wheelchair and not being afraid to be taken to court for it because "ramps are expensive."

-Also, while this is likely meant to be a more flirtatious aspect of him, Cave's regular complements toward Caroline are mainly based on her appearance, so him having a flirty macho act wouldn't be out of the question. Meanwhile, Rick regularly complements Chell with words like "beautiful" in a similar fashion-not necessarily chauvinistic to be complemented but could be interpreted as shallow. On a side note, the wiki states that Cave Johnson's time period was during the '50s where Rick's kind of sexism wasn't really seen as outdated or rude but rather much more commonplace.

-During the fight, Rick regularly tries to fight Wheatley himself in an attempt to act macho and angry. Cave was known for being tough and angry, from refusing to listen to his fellow scientists about not telling the subjects which ones were the control group to his famous speech where he "tells life to take the lemons back" and "invent combustible lemons to burn life's house down." Rick's line where he says "Get dirty with this robot" is especially reminiscent of the type of attitude Cave had in his monologues.

-At one point, Rick asks if "there might be nine more of that guy somewhere" when referring to Wheatley. This could also be interpreted by a copy of a conscious or a copy of an A.I.

-MatPat has already explained that Turrets are not really sentient and only appear to be sentient, as they are programmed to make certain types of decisions. Humans are definitely sentient, and GLaDOS, from what can be determined, is sentient. Some cores, like Cake Core and Fact Core might not be sentient due to their behaviors, but GLaDOS and Rick are both very sentient as shown by their ability to react.

So what do you think? Could Cave have found himself in a corrupted personality core?
