    Portal 2 does NOT take place 50,000 years after Portal 1.

    Addressing the unused line.

    Whenever I see people that state otherwise, their only proof is an unused line from GLaDOS in Portal 2. However, if the line is unused, it's 100% unreliable. If Portal 2 really, canonically took place 50,000 years into the future, why would this line be unused? It must've been scrapped for a reason. Maybe it's because Valve thought that 50,000 years would be too far into the future.

    Portal 2's environments, characters, etc. would be long gone.

    Portal 2's rusty overgrown test chambers in the beginning of the game is proof that it takes place maybe.. a few centuries after Portal 1. It is NOT evident of 50,000 years passing, or even a couple thousand for that matter. If 50,000 years really past, Portal 2 would be way more of mess than it actually is. Also, GLaDOS, Wheatley, the Portal Gun, etc. would be in disrepair, never to function again. You can also forget about powering the facility.
