    Caroline was the one that was still alive, here's why

    I don't think Caroline was killed by being uploaded into GLaDOS:

    It was always shown she didn't want to run Aperture, but moreso I think she felt she didn't want to undertake the responsibility of CEO of a multi (billion?) dollar applied science comapny. Aperture could not hold hostage and kill a woman for the purpose of science and not get backlash, as Caroline would go missing and questions would be asked, that would also bring into question the moral bankruptcy of Aperture employees.

    I think a snapshot of Caroline's brain, her personality, thoughts, experiences and so on and they were uploaded to be the Genetic part of GLaDOS, and after that I think Caroline did a runner. Or at the very least, Caroline herself was killed when GLaDOS went online along with every other employee. As soon as GLaDOS went online she became self aware, power hungry and genocidal: that is nowhere near the personality of Caroline herself. The genetic component was pushed aside by the rest of the program, leading to its rediscovery in Portal 2.

    Cave never necessarily said she had to be put in a computer: He specified she was to be forced to run the company but not to be uploaded, I think that was more to do with Simmons' delivery of the line.

    Maybe this was all just obvious and a given to everyone else, but I just thought of it now.

    I got a Chell POP figure and cut the portal gun off, carved the back to where I could fit a peg, and made the much better looking portal gun LEGO compatible. Here’s a comparison between the LEGO one (left), and my custom one (right).

    Need help with Portal 2 audio configuration

    I am on Linux and every time I play Portal 2, it always resets "speaker configuration" to "5.1 speakers", and I have tried everything I can think of to get it to stop.

    I have tried:

    • deleting config.cfg
    • deleting Steam cloud data
    • deleting all game files, disconnecting Steam cloud, and running in offline mode
    • manually adding "snd_surround_speakers 0" to config.cfg and then transferring ownership of config.cfg to the root user so it cannot be overridden.

    Every time I restart the game, it is reset to 5.1. I am convinced this may be an engine bug. This would not be a huge issue if it didn't slightly break the sound engine when I change the setting. Has anybody else had this problem and is it possible to fix?
