Game freezes for 10 seconds randomly, compatibility mode does nothing. Posted: 16 Aug 2021 03:26 PM PDT I redownloaded Portal yesterday to complete some achievements I missed years ago, and every 10 minutes or so, my game will freeze and hiccup for 5-10 seconds, then continue like nothing happened. It's very annoying especially for Time Trials like in this video. Some people online have said to turn on Compatibility mode with Windows 7, but that hasn't done anything, in fact it might have worsened it. NZXT Cam says there's no GPU utilization while this happens, and Task Manager says hl2.exe (Portal) stops responding during the freezes. I have a powerful PC, I get 280+fps consistently on max settings, and for some reason it ran better on my old PC with no stutters. The only thing I can think of is that it's not very compatible with my GPU or drivers as it's an old game on a brand new card.
